In industrial roof sheeting and cladding terms, a standing seam steel roof cladding system features a series of machine sealed vertical lips. Highly durable and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, standing seam systems are used in a wide range of vertical and near horizontal cladding systems.
Typically speaking, there are three types of standing seam systems we are frequently asked to source as a leading industrial sheeting supplier, and these are:
-Standing Seam – all makes of traditional standing seam systems.
-Snaplock – where seams of steel, copper, stainless steel or precoated aluminium simply snap-lock together. The system requires less technical skill than a traditional standing seam.
- Nail strip – also known as a nail flange, this metal standing seam roof cladding system is fastened directly to the deck through the male leg.
Once the panel is secure, the female leg of the panel snaps over to hide the fasteners.
One of the advantages of a standing seam steel roof cladding system (or other metal) is that it provides an excellent watertight design. With other industrial roof sheeting systems, there needs to be an overlap to prevent water intrusion, which is simply not needed with a standing seam system. Standing seam industrial cladding panels typically use either 25mm or 38mm vertical crimped lips or ridges to form an impenetrable seal.
Tile effect industrial roof sheeting is a popular choice for those looking for what is called the pantile effect. It is designed to give a classic tile finish in a high quality steel sheet.
As an industrial sheeting & cladding supplier, we often source tile effect metal roof sheeting for refurbishment projects or new contemporary buildings. Pantile industrial sheeting can be cut to size and is ideal for domestic, agricultural and commercial roofs.
The advantage of this type of industrial sheeting is that it is far quicker, easier to install, far lighter than conventional tiling and more durable. Plus, they look like real tiles.
At PIRS, we have fantastic links with all the leading tile effect industrial roof sheeting manufacturers, including Metrotile, JL Rooftile, and Kingspan (to name the main ones).
There is a huge range of colours and textures to choose from, including modern effect tiles, shingle, slate and roman. Please just give us a call if there is anything a bit more bespoke you are looking for. We’ll always be able to help.
In response to the awful and avoidable tragedy that happened in Grenfell, the government introduced a ban on combustible cladding materials in December 2018. The ban includes aluminium composite material, otherwise known as ACM.
The ban applies to all new residential buildings above 18m in height and new dormitories in student accommodation, care homes and hospitals above 18m.
Building owners are also legally obliged to remove ACM cladding or provide a clear plan for its removal.
Other combustible materials (including some types of industrial sheeting and cladding) have also been banned from being used in renovations of existing buildings.
The government legislation also limits the use of some timber industrial sheeting and cladding, including certain engineered timber.
Although we cannot take any liability as an industrial sheeting & cladding supplier, when we recommend products, we will always do so with regulations in mind. However, it is the responsibility of the building contractor to ensure the correct use of industrial roof sheeting and wall cladding. We’re happy to take any calls though – simply reach out to us.
There is a huge variety of profiled steel cladding for today’s specifier to choose from. However, typically speaking there are eight or more different types of profiled steel cladding systems, and these are:
- Single skin cladding and industrial sheeting
- Box profiles (available in galvanised polyester and plastic coated steel)
- Standing Seam
- Corrugated industrial sheeting
- Tile form
- Lightweight GPR sheets
- Handfolded sheets
- Crimp curved trapezoidal profiles
There is a wide range of more bespoke profiled steel cladding systems too that we can source as a leading industrial sheeting & cladding supplier. Simply contact us for further help.
